How to Make a Folding Chair into a Swivel

If you are looking to save some space in your home, then how about turning that old folding chair into a swivel? It is an easy project with some basic tools. This blog post will show how to convert a folding chair into a swivel using just two bolts and washers!

Steps on Making a Folding Chair into a Swivel

Step 1. First, measure how far apart the folding chair’s legs are when closed. This will determine how long of a bolt you need to buy for attaching one leg to the other.

Measure from where each leg meets at its foot and up to where it stops with an open seat (or as high as possible on your particular chair ).

Always buy a bolt that is at least as long as the measurement for how far apart your chair’s legs are when closed. If you measure 27″ from where each leg meets to how high it goes, then purchase a 30″ bolt (27+27=30).

Step 2. Next, attach one of the folding chair’s feet to the other.

Measure how far the foot of one leg is from where it meets at its base and mark that same measurement on the backside or underside of the opposite leg’s foot.

Step 3. Drill a hole through both legs with a drill bit slightly smaller than your bolt (you can find these in any hardware store). Make sure to drill one hole on the underside of each leg.

Step 4. Attach a nut to each bolt and tighten it so that it is snug but not too tight (if your chair works well, you’ll have more space for tightening).

Put in a washer between the two bolts and thread the bolt through both holes until its head rests solidly on the washer.

Step 5. Place a second nut on top of each bolt and tighten it so that it is snug but not too tight.

Slide your chair into a U shape (or how you plan to unfold). Make sure to measure how far from one side of the seat’s arm rests how far down in front or behind where you want to open the chair.

Measure how far up from where you’ll be sitting how high you need for a back and cut two lengths of wood or metal that measure about one inch wider than your height (so if it’s too short, they can overlap).

Step 6. Drill two holes in each end of these boards so that when you attach them to the seat, they’ll be in line with how far you need for a back.

Drill two holes on each of these boards so that when you put one board at the top and one at the bottom, they’ll fit around your chair’s arms rests nicely.

Take wood screws and screw one end of each board into the arms of your chair.

Step 7. Take a drill or screwdriver and in one side of each board, drill two holes so that when you put it on the other end of this new back, they align with how far from where you want to open up the seat.

When both boards are screwed onto opposite ends of the armrests, they’ll be at the same level.

Step 8. Drill some more holes on these boards so that when you put them together to form a back, one board will go over and under the other – this is how it’s all connected.

Screw in the last two screws through each hole into your chair arms while making sure that they’re tight.

And voila, you have a swivel chair!

How do you Make a Club Chair?

Club chairs are very popular seating options. They’re not only comfortable, but they also have an exquisite and inviting design that fits nicely in any room.

Step 1. To create the perfect seat for your club chair, you have to measure how wide your arms are in total and how long they are. This will tell you how tall the chair should be so that it’s comfy for your frame.

Step 2. Next, you have to measure how wide your arm is from the elbow and how long your leg is. This will tell you how deep or shallow the chair should be so that it’s comfortable for sitting in while still being able to get up easily.

Step 3. After this, you’ll want to find fabric for your club chairs that complements any other pieces of furniture you have.

Finally, make a cushion for the chair that matches how deep or shallow it is to allow your frame to rest comfortably.

What Materials do you Need to Make a Chair?
