Swivel installation for a Lazboy Rocker Recliner

The installation of a swivel to your favourite recliner is a great way to make it more comfortable. With how much time we spend in our chairs, this little addition will help us avoid the aches and pains that come with long hours sitting on hard surfaces.

This article will give you step-by-step instructions for how to install a swivel on your Lazboy Rocker Recliner.

Steps on Installing a Swivel on a Lazyboy Rocker Recliner

First, find the bolts that are on your chair. The best way to do this is to look for holes in the base of the seat or place where you have a “rocking” motion available.

Second, use an Allen key and tighten those bolts with a socket wrench. This will provide stability when installing your swivel plate.

Third, take off the old swivel from your chair by removing one bolt at a time and sliding it out of its slot so that you can access all four mounting screws underneath it. Clean these up if they need them then replace them with longer ones provided in the package with new rubber washers (two). Put everything back how you found it but set aside the old swivel.

Fourth, using a drill and the new screws provided in your package, attach the Swivel plate assembly to where you want it on the chair base. Then use an Allen key to tighten them all down together tightly. This will give you a stable footing for how far back or how forward that swivel can go when moving at different angles with someone sitting on it now.

Fifth, hold onto one of these bolts from underneath and slowly turn the other ones clockwise while checking how tight they are getting as well as how much movement is left before reaching their maximum torque point.

You should get this feeling once everything has been tightened up properly so be careful not to overdo anything here because too much torque will break things.

Sixth, use a wrench or pliers to tighten the bolts up with enough force to wrap them if possible so that they stay put when you’re done and don’t loosen over time.

This is how I like to do it because then you can be sure that this swivel will not move from side to side at all without first loosening some of these nuts again which isn’t easy on just one person alone. For more information about how we did ours check out our video here:

Seventh, once everything has been tightened down smoothly and securely double-check by testing how well the swivel moves while someone sits on it before installing any new parts back onto your chair.

And finally, we put the new leather cover back onto our chair and restored it to its former glory.

How do you make a swivel rocker stationary?

To make a swivel rocker stationary, you would need to install brackets. These brackets come with instructions on how to design them for your particular recliner.

The purpose of these brackets is to keep the chair in one place while still allowing it to sit back and forth like an old-fashioned rocking chair. The installation process can be completed in an hour and requires only a few basic tools.

What are the benefits of installing brackets on your swivel chair?

#1. Less wear to the wheels (since you won’t be rocking), which also means longer lasting tires for treading carpets, rugs or other surfaces with debris like sand, dirt or pet hair.

#2. No more pesky lint balls that get stuck around the wheel when it’s not moving from side to side; this is because there will be no friction created by rockers as they sit stationary.

How do I Install These Brackets?

You’ll need one bracket per wheel assembly – two total if you’re using four swivelling casters under your chair. These brackets will be secured to the bottom of your chair’s frame using screws and nuts, which can usually be found at a hardware store or from some online retailers that specialize in office furniture.

Step 1. First, position one bracket near each wheel assembly on the underside of your chair so the two screw holes are lined up with their corresponding threaded eyelets on either side of the caster (you may have to drill out any excess metal if they’re too close together).

Step 2. Then use appropriate size bolts to mount these brackets securely by tightening them down onto both sides; you’ll need Allen keys for this part! Make sure not to overtighten because it might damage your wood finish – just tighten enough until everything feels sturdy and secure but not overly tight.

Step 3. Next, adjust the height of your chair so that it’s flat on the floor and flip back to its upright position; this might take a little fiddling around with how you have things bolted in place but eventually, everything should be stable when fully flipped up.

You’ll probably want to remove any chair arms before proceeding with mounting – just snap them off for now if they’re not wooden (this shouldn’t leave any marks).

Step 4. Then use an Allen key or screwdriver to mount one bracket onto each armhole, positioning them as close together as possible without overlapping screws.

Again, tighten enough until it feels secure but don’t overdo it! And make sure both brackets are mounted straight by flipping the chair over and checking how they look from underneath.

Step 5. Don’t forget to drill holes for your bolts: one in each armhole, about a third up from the bottom – this is where you’ll screw on an L bracket with two screws (the ones that came with your swivel).

Step 6. Position it so its horizontal arms are just touching inside of the armhole; make sure there’s enough room left between these brackets and the rest of what holds up your seat cushion before drilling through!

When positioned correctly, this will provide leverage when mounting them. It should also be noted that most levers have at least three slots for height adjustment — use whichever suits you best.
