Next, fold the fabric for the cover and pages in half, with right sides together. Pin in place and sew around all four edges using a ¼” seam allowance. Leave a small opening at one of the short ends so you can turn the book right side out later.
Clip the corners and curves (being careful not to cut your stitches) and turn the book right side out. Iron flat, then topstitch around all four edges close to the edge.
Now it’s time to put your photo book together. Start by arranging your photos on one of the folded pages (I like to do this on my computer first then print them out). Once you have them arranged how you want them, clip them in place with some clothespins.
Sew around the edge of the photo, being careful not to catch any of the other photos in your stitches. If you’re hand sewing, use a needle and strong thread.
Once all of your photos are sewn in place, it’s time to add some pages. To do this, measure over ½” from one side of the spine (the folded edge with no opening) and make a small mark. Do this on both sides.
On the first page after your photos (the blank one), measure over ½” from the left side and make another mark. This is where you will sew your first interior page into the book.
Continue adding pages in this way, measuring over ½” from the left side of each page and sewing them into place.
Continue until all of your pages are sewn in place, then add the back cover to finish off your book!
Now it’s time to decorate! Use a fabric pen, paint pens, or fabric markers to add some text or embellishments. You can also stitch on some felt shapes using embroidery floss.
Just be sure that you don’t sew too close to the edge—leave at least ¼” between the edge and where you start stitching so there is no chance of tearing when turning pages.
