After you have gathered all the things needed, you can proceed to the actual steps in shortening your curtain.

Step #1. Deciding on the length
First and foremost, you need to decide on your desired length to know how much to cut off or to hem.
If the excess fabric in your curtain is a lot, you can trim its ends using your fabric scissors.
Use some straight pins to mark your curtains.
You can do this step while your curtains are hanging on a curtain rod.
But you might as well take it off the curtain rod.
Make use of a ruler in measuring how long you are going to hem.
