Step-By-Step Instructions To Sew Piping On A Pillow

Have you prepared your materials yet? Okay!

We will now go to our sewing part. Just follow these few simple steps, and you will have your throw pillows leveled up in no time!

Step #1. Cord and bias

We will first place the cord inside the bias.

Make sure that the thread is facing the wrong side of the fabric.

Attach some pins to pin the fabric into place. This will make the sewing later easier.

Step #2. Sewing the cord

The next step is we will sew the fabric with the cord.

If you have a sewing machine, attach the zipper foot.

You have to place the cord as close as you can to the needle and sew slowly.

If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can also sew it by hand!

You will have to make sure that you sew near the cord for a more defined look on the thread.

You could use a backstitch sewing technique on this one.

Step #3. Attaching to your pillow

Now that we have our piping, we will proceed with attaching it to the pillowcase.

You will need your pillowcase with this one, or you could make one right now.

In making a pillowcase, you will need two fabric pieces of the same sizes, zipper, and fillings.

The first thing to do is place your fabric (front) on a flat surface and make sure the wrong side faces the surface.

Then pin the piping on the edges just enough for you to sew it later. After that, place another fabric (back) with the wrong side facing you and pin it to the piping.

Leave the bottom part open because this is where you will place the zipper later.

Sew the edges together, leaving the bottom part open. After sewing, you will have to attach the zipper at the bottom.

When attaching the zipper, make sure to open it slightly, and the right side was facing in.

Step #4. Filling

After sewing the zipper, it is time for you to turn your pillowcase inside out, opening the zipper.

After you have turned it out, check if there are open spaces that need repairs. If there is, repair it immediately before putting the filling in.

If there are no more problems, you can now proceed with the filling. There can be many types of fillings that could be used.

You could use polyester fiberfill, memory foam, feathers, or your old pillows.

The last step is to close the zipper.

And there out have it! Your very own throw pillow version two point O!

Make the old new again by bringing it back to life. Say goodbye to your dull living room and hello to the upgraded level.
