How to put together a bed frame

It is intentionally constructed to lift a bed off the floor as well as to offer the right seating for a mattress pad.

If you raise your bed, you will also be creating a storage space hidden underneath.

Some bed frames are even integrated with wheels to make it easier for you to move your bed when rearranging your room or when cleaning it.

Ways To Put Together A Bed Frame

Bed frames are available in numerous styles, so you can choose a particular design that can match your room.

Each of which comes with assembly instructions that vary slightly. But most of them can be put together using the same methods.

So, how to put together a bed frame?

Below are two methods that you can follow.

Method #1. For A Metal Bed Frame

If your bed frame is made of metal, you can follow the procedure below.

But this can also be applied to other bed frames. As mentioned the process varies a bit only.

Step #1. Positioning the frame

Layout the folded slats of the frame onto your bedroom floor.

Place them on the spot where you intend to put your bed.

Step #2. Connect the rails

Open both the bottom and top rails. Then pull out its hinges rails.

Start connecting the bottom and top rails.

You will see that one rail has circular raised tabs while the other is designed with receiving slots.

Step #3. Secure the rails

Using clips, you now have to secure the rails.

However, some frames may not come with clips.

Instead, their slots are made longer to hold the tabs.

Once you slipped the tabs down, the clips will snap into the slot thereby securing the rails.

Step #4. Attaching additional support

If your bed is a queen size, you need to attach additional support at the center that is not required for full and twin-size beds.

You may attach them crosswise or lengthwise.

Just make sure that the holes of the center rail are aligned with the frame holes.

Then, put the screws with their heads facing upwards.

After that, you can begin twisting the nuts into the threads.

Use the adjustable pliers in holding those nuts and a screwdriver in tightening the screws.

Method #2. For A Wooden Bed Frame

If your bed frame is made of wood, you can follow these steps instead.

Step #1. Placing the headboard against your wall

To make the process easier, place the taller frame against the wall, preferably on the spot intended for the bed.

Step #2. Attaching the side rails

Locate the grooves or the tiny holes at the base of the headboard.

Then start attaching the side rails of the bed frames to every side of your headboard.

Make sure that each of them is pointing out.

These side rails may or may not include nuts and screws to secure them in place.

Step #3. Connecting the baseboard

Now it’s time to attach the baseboard onto the side rails.

You can do this the same way you did in attaching the headboard.

It’s just that the baseboard has a shorter length than the bed frame’s headboard.

Furthermore, the holes or grooves may also look a bit different.

In addition, any nuts or screws that come with it are smaller.

Step #4. Attaching the beam or board guides

This step is only done if needed.

Other side rails come with small ridges, holes, or panels intended for the center supports.

In case this is lacking in your wooden bed frame, nuts and screws may be required to attach the guides.

Locate the marks along the side rails that indicate these spots are for drilling.

Then starting drilling a hole in it to attaching the support guides.

Step #5. Adding the support legs

This step is also optional just like the previous one.

In case your center beams or boards come with legs for support, you need to attach those legs before you connect that center supports onto the frame.

Commonly, you only need to screw the legs into the beam or board by hand.

But sometimes, drilling may be required.

Step #6. Connecting the center beams or boards

Now you have to connect these onto the side rails.

Make sure to put them across the bed frame with even spaces.

Secure these support with nuts or screws when needed.

But if the holes or grooves are self-locking, you simply need to slide them in.

Step #7. Checking the frame

Get a tape measure and a level to ensure that your bed frame is not slanted before you place the mattress over it.

Check the center supports as well as the side rails.

In case your frame is adjustable, ensure that the size is right for the mattress.
