Fabric. It is a word that many of us have heard before, but how many know how much fabric they need for their small swivel chair? If you are one of these people, do not worry. In this blog post, you will learn how to measure fabric for a small swivel chair!
Steps on Measuring Fabric for a Small Swivel Chair
Step One: Measure how wide the seat of your chair is. Measure from one side to the other with a measuring tape and see how many inches there are. Make sure you measure in even inches, like 12 or 14.
Remember that this measurement does not include how far down the back of your chair goes! If you are unsure how to measure your chair, take the measurements into account and you will have a better idea.
For example, My seat is 13 inches wide so I would need even 14 yards of fabric for my small swivel chair’s cover.
Step Two: Measure how long the back of your chair goes down at its widest point. This measurement does not include how far up your armrests go!
This step should be done by measuring how many inches there are from where it meets with one side and then with how many inches in on the other side as well (for a total of two rows). This measurement plus half an inch per foot to know how much fabric you need. For example, if my width is 44 inches, I need a total of 22 yards.

Step Five: Double check how much fabric you have
This step should be done after you cut your fabric, to ensure how much is left over. You can do this by measuring how many yards of material there are in a width and then measure the length of how long it would go if it was hanging straight down on both sides (if it’s not that wide). This will tell you how much needs to be added or taken away from the other measurements for your seat cover.
If my measurement for my small swivel chair’s back comes up with 17″ across I need 18 yards total so I know I’ll need an extra yard at least. If any part of this calculation includes adding inches together, always round UP!
My original calculations came out to 34″ for the width of my fabric, so I can easily cut this down to 33.
How Many Yards of Fabric do I Need to Cover a Club Chair?
Club chairs are often made of fabric and require a bit more fabric than normal because they can be quite large. You will want to double the measurement for your chair so you have enough fabric to cover it.
If, however, your club chair is on the smaller side, then you may only need one yard of fabric or 50 inches worth of material.
This means that if your swivel chair has an outside diameter (OD) of 32-inches long and 18-inches wide, then you would need at least two yards to make sure there’s enough coverage from top to bottom.
What is the Best Fabric to Cover a Sofa?
A few things to consider when choosing the best fabric for your sofa are how hard you want it to be and how often will people sit on it.
Highly durable fabrics, like outdoor carpeting or heavy-duty upholstery fabric, would work well if you live in a house that has pets or kids running around all day while lighter weight materials might better suit someone who doesn’t have as many children or animals living with them at home.

How to Care for Chair Fabric
One of the most important parts of how to care for chair fabric is how you clean it. For upholstery made from a durable fabric, like outdoor carpeting or heavy-duty upholstery fabrics, just vacuum regularly and make sure not to spill liquids on your furniture – even if they are covered by a protective mat. Use an easy-to-remove stain remover that doesn’t contain harsh chemicals whenever needed instead.
For lighter weight materials, use gentle soap mixed with water to avoid damaging the material while scrubbing any stains away from the surface before airing out in sunlight so it dries without getting wet again. Always air dries rather than tumble drying this type of cover which can cause more damage over time as well as decrease its lifespan.
Keep your furniture looking sharp by using a lint roller on the surface before each use – and don’t forget to check underneath for any dust that might have accumulated. An occasional vacuum of both surfaces, cushions and seams will also do wonders in keeping it fresh!
