6 Steps To Make Macrame Curtains
Now that you have all the things needed follow the procedure below.
Here are the steps on how to make macrame curtains:
Step #1. Measure the windows in your home
Measure your window and doorway where you intend to hang the curtain.
After getting the measurement, you need to cut the yarn twice the window or doorway length using your scissors.
Step #2. Fold the yarns
Fold each yarn piece in half and thread them onto the curtain rod.
The folded loop must then be tucked below the rod and pull its ends.
Just repeat this process until you cover the entire curtain rod in strings.
Step #3. Weave the yarns
In this step, you need to weave together all those yarn pieces across the uppermost portion of the curtain.
All you need to do is grasp the utmost string under and over the following string and then tie it into a knot.
Repeat the process to make a double knot.
Now, get the 2nd string and loop it around the cord next to it and tie it onto a knot.
Also, repeat it to make a double knot.
Continue doing this until you have double knotted the entire curtain length.
Step #4. Form a V shape on your curtain
Make a V shape in your curtain by doing the same things you did in the previous step.
You can use tape as a guide.
The only thing different from the process is that you have to work from outside to inside than simply going straight across.
You can start from the right. Grasp the utmost string and loop it onto the string next to it.
Then, double knot the
Repeat the process until you get to the center.
Do the same on the left side.
When you get to the middle, tie it off to create a double knot as well.
Step #5. Make another knot
After you have created your V pattern, you may get rid of the tape already.
Some would stop from here, but you might want to add more knot patterns to enhance its design.
The final knot must always be a double knot, just like how you do it with your shoelace.
In case you want to create an X pattern, you need to part the yarn pieces at the middle to ensure that the pattern is symmetrical.
Starting from the left, you need to take four pieces. Hold two pieces in your right hand and the other two pieces in your left hand.
Then tie them into a double knot at about three inches below the V shape you created earlier.
Do the same on the right side. Ensure that the knots are leveled with the knots on the other side.
After you made four rows of yarn, double knot the middle of the two rows, you will see that the X pattern is starting to form from here.
Just repeat the same process above to create a criss-cross pattern successfully. Awesome right?
But remember not to plait too far down. Of course, you wouldn’t want your macrame curtain to hinder your way.
Step #6. Finish up!
Now it’s time to finish your project!
Try hanging your macrame curtain to find out how the knots fall from the rod.
Adjust the knots accordingly to ensure that they will look great and even.
You can also trim the bottom to remove any long pieces that look straggly.
Finally, add big tassels at the center and at both sides to complete the look.
