Step #1. Prepare the things you need

The first thing you’ll ever going to need is the following tools and materials.

Fabric

When it comes to fabrics, old fabrics or sheets will do, but if you want to find and purchase one yourself, you can buy it from the textiles or online.

Sewing machine or kit

You can also use a sewing machine to save up some time. Sewing machines may be manual or electric.

If you don’t have a sewing machine in your home, you can always switch up to the traditional way using a sewing kit.

Thread

Choose a thread that suits the color of your fabric. If your material has various patterns, use the color that appears the most.

Scissors

Any sharp scissors will do. Make sure that it can cut into fabrics.

Measuring tape

I’m sure you’ve heard of this one.

We’ll use a measuring tape to ensure each dimension are correct.

Grommet top kits

These grommet top kits are available online for your convenience.

These will be used to cover the curtain holes.

Pins

Of course, you will use pins to hold the fabric in place for a more effortless sewing experience.

Iron and board

That is to keep the fabric neat from crumples and be more detailed when pleated.

Step #2. Measure

After you have prepared the following tools and materials, you are going to measure the window next.

Measure its width and length.

Double the width and add an extra 12 inches to the length and cut it out of your fabric.

Make sure to lay the fabric on the floor or any flat surface when you are cutting to ensure an even line.

Step #3. Ironing

Next is to iron the fabric.

Yes, it may be tiresome, but it will yield a good result. Iron the fabric on the ironing board.

Do not turn the heat all the way up because you might burn the fabric.

Turn the heat to a medium just right to make the crumpled parts neat.

Iron the wrong side of the curtain to avoid damaging the good side.

I mean, you don’t want to get the front part burned.

Step #4. Hem the fabric

Fold the edges for hems. A 2-3 inches double folded hems will do.

Make it 4 inches at the top.

That is where you will attach the grommets.

Make sure that the final hem will be wide enough to accommodate the size of your grommets.

Pin the hems and proceed to the next step.

Step #5. Sewing

The next step is sewing. Since you’ve pinned the edges down, sew these edges along the sides.

Sew it an eighth of an inch away from the folded hem.

You could either use a sewing machine or a sewing kit.

Basic sewing knowledge is a necessity in this activity.

If you’re going to use a sewing machine, make use of the straight stitch.

Although if you are going to use sewing by hand, make use of the backstitch or basting.

Step #6. Measure the curtain rod

Measure your curtain rod. That will be your reference for placing the grommets in place.

Divide the length by how many grommets you are going to use and bust a hole on it.

In the grommet, there is a template to mark the curtain with the grommet’s size.

Use this to find the right size of the hole for your curtain.

Step #7. Placing the grommet

Place the grooved side at the wrong side of the curtain and the top on the front.

Make sure that the grommets are lined with the holes you made.

Press the grommet down from the top and press it firmly.

You will hear a snap once the grommets are attached.

Repeat these steps to the remaining grommets.

Once you’re done, slip the rod curtain through the holes. Then you’re done.

You can follow these steps and make yourself careful when using the iron clothes and the sewing machine.
