You should turn off the gas pilots and any kind of fire burning nearby to complete the task safely. Now let’s go straight to the point and find out a safe and sound method to unhook a gas dryer.

Steps To Disconnect A Gas Dryer

We are going to clear your perspective on how to disconnect gas dryer. Most people think taking with gas is as dangerous as an earthquake. However, their misconception completely depends on how you do the task.

Step #1. Shut off the gas valve

You must take out all the garments from the dryer in the beginning. Also, open the door to make sure that it has become completely dried from inside. Clean the lint tray and dryer exhaust because if you are donating the dryer or selling it to someone else, it will be a good gesture from you. Then shut the door and locate a shut-off valve from the rear side of the dryer.

When you will see the valve, it will be in the parallel line with the gas supply line. Now you have to turn that valve off by rotating it in a perpendicular direction with the gas line. The same rule of 90 degrees applies no matter the gas line is horizontal or vertical. If you cannot find a plastic or metal shut-off valve, it means that you have to access and turn off the main system from where gas supplies to the stove, oven, and other appliances.

Step #2. Unhook the flexible gas hose

Pull the dryer toward yourself to locate the back panel. You must have two adjustable wrenches in your toolbox. Use them to remove the flexible gas line. You can also utilize a pair of channel lock pliers if you don’t have wrenches. Put one wrench on the gas inlet and the other on the hose and rotate the wrench on the inlet downward and the other on the gas pipe should be rotated upward.

Remove the hose and repeat the same process with the gas valve. Then, one important thing that you cannot skip at any cost is the fitting of a pipe cap. Buy a cap of the same size as the diameter of the gas valve and fix it after wrapping the Teflon tape or applying pipe joint compound on the threads. Remember, you have to install the pipe cap even if the gas is not turned on from the shut-off valve.

Step #3. Take off the power cord and dryer duct

Pull out the power cord from the receptacles and now you have to take off the cover plate from the rear panel by using a nut driver. Loosen three terminals after removing the plate and move them out of their place. Now you have successfully removed the gas and electric connections from the dryer. It’s time to remove the dryer vent.  Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamp from the exhaust and the vent. Slide the 4-inch clamp and set it aside. Also, put the elbow joints in a safe place so that they can help you while installing a new dryer.

How To Disconnect A Steam Dryer

Do you have a steam dryer that uses gas to provide you with fully dried and ready-to-hang-in-the-wardrobe clothes? I heard you saying yes. You need to follow these steps if you wanna open the dryer from hookups. Close the cold water shut-off valve of the washer. Then disconnect all three hoses from the y-connector. Reattach the washer hose with the cold water valve. Do’s And Don’ts Of Disconnection

I thought of sharing these tips with you guys to make your life easier as it is already difficult and the least I can do to relieve your tensions related to the installation of a gas dryer.

  • Do not remove the flexible gas hose and install the pipe cap on the supply line if you are just replacing the old dryer with the new one. But make sure that you have shut off the gas valve. The same rule applies to the dryer duct.
  •  Check the dryer duct for kinks and breaks and replace it if some signs of wear and tear are visible. Bear in mind that the duct should be of rigid metal as the vinyl or foil ducts are not reliable as they can catch fire.
  • Clean the dryer duct by using a vacuum cleaner and suck the lint from the duct cavity and the vent. Also, use a mop and floor cleaner to wipe out any stains beneath your dryer. Now are ready to say welcome to your brand new dryer.
  • Don’t forget to open the windows and vents for proper ventilation of gas. You must air out that gas for 5 minutes until its smell has gone.

Cost

You will have to pay 0 dollars if you opt to unhook the dryer yourself. On the other hand, the estimated charges of a technician are from 50 to 100 bucks. In addition, they can charge an additional fee for relocating the dryer from your house to somewhere else. You may also want to read about the best compact washer and dryer.
