It’s important to have a comfortable home office space. A great way to do that is by converting your standard square bar stool into a swivel chair. It will make you feel like you are in the comfort of your own living room, and it won’t cost much!
This how-to guide will show how easy it is to convert a square bar stool to a swivel chair, and how we did it without breaking the bank.
Steps on Converting Square Bar Stool to a Swivel Chair
Step 1. Snip the nylon straps that hold the bar stool together. You can use a pair of shears, but you will need to be careful not to cut yourself! We used an electric drill with a metal cutting blade in place because it was faster and more accurate.
Step 2. Remove the screws from your old square bar stool using an appropriate screwdriver set (this is what we used) and then take off all four legs so they are perpendicular to how they were originally attached.
If you’re looking for even sturdier legs, replace them with new ones – these were $12 each at our local hardware store.
Step 3. Measure how high up on those legs you want your seat height by measuring how tall you are or how high you want your chair to be.
Step 4. Secure each new leg at the height of how high up on them you decided with a screwdriver and then attach it by using an appropriate bolt set (this is what we used). You might need someone else to help hold things in place for you so make sure they’re nearby!
Step 5. Cut metal brackets into three different lengths – one that will fit around any kind of bar stool, another that fits around 16″ bars, and finally the last bracket needs to measure how tall or low down on the legs you just attached
Step 6. Wrap this final piece behind each leg where it’s not secured yet with electrical tape until all four are completely secure. Make sure everything is tight before moving onto step five.
Step 7. Apply the bolts to your brackets and tighten them with a screwdriver. Put back on the top metal piece that you had taken off in step one. Attach it by using an appropriate bolt set (this is what we used). You might need someone else to help hold things in place for you so make sure they’re nearby!
How do you Attach a Swivel Base to a Recliner?
Step 1. Lay the swivel base on the ground in front of you. You should be looking at a flat surface with metal plates and holes in it
Step 2. Locate one hole that has a shorter bolt sticking out from it (the other one will have longer bolts)
Step 3. Use your screwdriver to tighten this into place by twisting until tight
Now, locate another plate close by where there is not yet an attached bolt or screws through it. This is how you know which position the swivel base needs to go in – just find two empty slots!
Step 4. Grab each side of the bottom bracket and pull towards yourself so that they can fit over both sides of this plate neatly.
Make sure all four corners are lined up and then use your hand to hold down the bracket so that you can easily tighten it in place – Be sure not to over-tighten or else the bolts will protrude too far out of their holes, making them hard to rotate.
