But first, get a paper and pen or open the memo on your phone.
Method #1. Measure the length
Using a tape measure and other measuring materials, you measure from the top to the bottom.
Decide whether to use inches or centimeters for the whole measurement.
An easier tip is to start the measurement from the curtain rod or curtain pole.
Then go down until the end of the window frame or to your desired endpoint.
Think twice before deciding on the length of your desired curtain because this gives life to the windows.
Method #2. Measure the width
For the width, you can also copy the method in measuring the length.
Stretch the measuring tape from the left side to the right side of the window frame.
You can also measure the width through the curtain rod or curtain pole that is hanging above the window.
The length of the curtain rod or the curtain pole is usually the same as the width of the window frame.
If you wish to cut your curtain into two, measure again from the center to the side.
It is best to have two curtains for every window to put them both to the sides if you wish to let sunlight pass through.
However, pleats, folds, and other styles of the curtain may affect the width of the curtain.

Method #3. Allowances

These allowances are those fabrics that are used for seamings and hemmings.
Think of how much fabric you need for the heading of the curtain.
Measure how big the curtain rod is. Make sure the hole you are going to make will be wider or good enough to pass through the rod.
On the other hand, if you are going to use curtain rings you can freely decide on how wide the heading of the curtain will be.
But remember the number of the curtain ring you are going to use.
After the heading, now think of how much allowance you need for the other remaining sides of the curtain.
Usually, allowances allotted for hemmings are 1 inch to 2 inches or 2.54 centimeters to 5.08 centimeters. This depends on you.
Do not forget to note down these allowances and initial measurements with labels.

Method #4. The fabric you want
During summer, curtains are thin and usually made of lightweight fabrics.

If you want curtains with just enough pleats, just double the measurement of the initial width.
How many folds are you planning to make with your curtain?

However, if you chose the first one, measure again the length from the curtain rod or curtain pole until the desired length.
Method #5. Calculations
This is the last step before you buy the fabrics you need to make curtains.
Combine the measurement of the allowances to the initial measurement of the widths and lengths.
Be mindful that there are two widths and two lengths.
Also, the heading allowance measurement is longer than the other measurements.
Usually, the other three allowances are the same.
After your calculations, combine the numbers to get the total length of your needed fabrics.
