Convenient Swivel Chair Base: A DIY Guide

Swivel chairs are a great addition to any workspace. Sometimes you just need that little bit of movement in your day, and how better than with the help of a swivel chair? So how do you make one? Well, we’re here to tell you how! Check out our DIY guide on how to make a swivel chair base.

Swivel Chair Base

Steps on Making a Swivel Chair Base

Step 1. Measure how tall your desk is from the floor to the top of it. Write down what measurement it comes out as, for example, “27 inches.”

Step 2. Cut a piece of wood that is 27 inches long and about two inches wide (or big enough so it can easily fit under your desk). Make sure there are no splits in the wood.

Step 3. Drill a hole on each end of the piece of wood, as well as one near its centre and then put your screws through them to fasten it together.

Step 4. Place the base beneath where you would like to place the chair (some people prefer under their desk while others put it against one side). Make sure the screws at each end of the base are screwed in tightly.

Step 5. Place your chair’s feet on either side and screw them into place. Make sure they’re tight against how wide you want it to be from front to back (for example, if you’d like a six-inch gap between where your legs would go).

Can you Convert a Recliner to a Swivel Base?

Yes, you can convert a recliner to a swivel base. The first step would be to measure how much space is between the feet and how wide of an opening the chair needs in front or behind it.

Step 1. If there are four screws on each side, unscrew them and then screw one into place at either end of the base.

Step 2. Place your chair’s feet on either side and screw them into place. Make sure they’re tight against how wide you want it to be from front to back (for example, if you’d like a six-inch gap between where your legs would go).

Find the centre of how far apart each foot is and how wide the opening is.

Step 3. Cut a hole in each side of the centre for your foot to go through, with enough space on either end for the base’s feet. Ensure you cut holes at least two inches from any edge of the chair (so it doesn’t break).

Step 4. Screw one screw into place and then guide your foot through the hole.

Step 5. Tighten it down and then screw in the other side of how wide how far apart your feet are from one another.

Step 6. Repeat for every leg on each side, ensuring they’re all tight against how wide how far apart you want them to be from front to back (for example, if you’d like your feet to be on the same horizontal plane, make sure they’re how wide how far apart).

Flip your chair over and screw in the bolts for how wide how far apart you want them. If you have a centre bolt with threads that are too long, cut off how many inches of thread as desired – but don’t go too short, or the bolt will come through how wide how far apart.

How do you change the base on a swivel chair?

Changing your base on a swivel chair is pretty easy. You take the cover off of the bottom or top and unscrew however many screws you need to loosen for it to come apart, lift any heavy parts (like motors) with some help from someone else if needed and then put them back into place when done.

How do you Adjust an old Swivel Chair?

Step 1. Adjusting an old swivel chair is pretty easy and can be done in a few steps. The first thing you need to do is remove the cover on the bottom or top of the base with a screwdriver, then take out any screws that are holding it together.

Don’t forget how much weight your chair will have once it’s been opened. Make sure you have someone else to help with lifting if needed.

Step 2. Once the chair is in pieces, just put each part back how they were before and tighten screws as necessary.

Step 3. If you are trying to fix a broken swivel chair or one that has lost its lubricant: You need to remove any parts that are broken and replace them with new ones. Then you can reattach the swivel chair ball to the base by drilling a hole through it and securing it in place with screws or bolts that have been screwed into the bottom of your base.

If all else fails, then you need to get some lubricant for your spindle so that it can start to spin again.

How do I Know How Much Lubricant to get?

You need about a half-ounce per foot of spindle, and be sure to apply the lubricant in one spot rather than all over so that you don’t end up with too many greasy spots on your floor!

Hopefully, this has helped
