Steps on Adding a Swivel to a Rocker Recliner

Step 1. Find a hole saw that can cut through the wood within your recliner. Most likely anything under 12 inches will work for this project.

Step 2. Cut out the circle with an electric drill or handheld circular saw, making sure not to let it go past any necessary support beams on either side of the rocker. The purpose is just to create a hole for the swivel to go through.

Step 3. Get your drill and attach it to the top of either side, depending on how big or small of an opening you made in step two. This will help with drilling holes into each end of the chair frame on either side of where we created our circle cut out earlier.

Step 4. Drill a hole through the chair frame on either side of where we created our circle cut out earlier. The location should be about 12 inches away from that opening.

Step 5. Take your bolt and screw it into one end, run it through the swivel, then put another nut and washer on both ends before tightening them together with your adjustable wrench.

Step 6. Take the other end of the bolt and screw it into one side of your chair frame, then put another nut on both ends before tightening them together with your adjustable wrench as well.

Step 7. Repeat steps four through six for the opposite hole in step two that you drilled earlier while using a different swivel than what you used on the first side.

Step 8. You can now go back to your original rocker recliner and put it in a rocking motion, this time with swivels added.

How do you install a swivel rocker base?

Place the swivel base on top of your chair frame.

Install a bolt on one side and tighten it with a nut to secure the two pieces together. Repeat for the opposite hole that you drilled earlier.

Put your original rocker recliner back into its rocking motion, this time with a new swivel base.

You can now rock back and forth with the swivel action you wanted in your chair!

Can you turn a recliner into a swivel?

The answer is yes! With a few simple tools and steps, you can turn your recliner into a swivel chair like never before.

First step: Remove the screws from the bottom of your rocker so that it lifts off its frame. Then remove any bolts on either side if they are still attached to the frame.

Step two: Drill a hole into your frame that is the same size as the bolt you removed from the side of the chair (or on one of its corners)

Step three: Put in a washer and then insert it through one end of an eyelet or grommet, which will act to hold both the washer and the bolt

Step four: Screw on a knob to hold your eyelet or grommet in place. Make sure you do not tighten too much, as this could make it difficult for the chair to swivel again later!

You can also attach an additional bar (the way bars are attached at most hardware stores) onto the sides of your rocker recliner. This will attach in a similar way to how you would attach another bar at one end, on the back or side of the chair –

Step One: Detach and remove enough bars from each corner to allow room for an additional bar

Step Two: Attach the additional bar to the back or side of the chair by screwing it onto each corner

Step Three: Screw on a knob or bolt to hold your eyelet in place. Again, make sure you do not tighten too much, as this could make it difficult for the chair to swivel again later!

Step Four: Reattach the original bars.

Step Five: Make sure everything looks how you want it to, and then tighten your bolts with an adjustable wrench

Step Six: Sit in your chair or rock back and forth a few times to make sure everything is working how it should be!

How do you keep bar stools from hitting counters?

To prevent bar stools from hitting counters, the best thing to do is buy a few rubber mats. They are inexpensive and can be found at most department stores. To keep ice in your drinks cold without diluting any of it, you should use an insulated cup with straws or purchase reusable cups that will fit into virtually all drink holders.
